BIOGRAPHY

David Murgadas plays the classical guitar and Early plucked instruments. He has studied with José Tomás at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Oscar Esplà” of Alicante (Spain) and Escola d’Arts Musicals Luthier Barcelona (Spain) , graduating with the highest honours. He improved his career with masters such as: David Russel, Manuel Barrueco, Jordi Savall, Carles Trepat, Andrew Laurence-King, Paul O’Dette, Hopkinson Smith…

He has specialised in early music at the Conservatorio de Música de Toulouse (France) where he did postgraduate studies of early instruments and basso continuo (2008). In Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya ESMUC and  Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona UAB  he did postgraduate studies of early music (2005) and Master in the Praxis of the interpretation of early music (2010).

He has won awards in several competitions and has been a member of the jury at the Anemos Competition in Rome in 2006, IV International guitar competition Valle de Egües (Pamplona- Spain).  He gave masterclasses and conferences in t the Conservatorio Superiore di Musica  di Torrefranca, Di Vibo Valentia (Calabria-Italy), in 2005, Conservatorio de Música de Puebla. México 2012, 1st Congress of musical performances in Puebla. Mexico 2013. International guitar festival 2013 in Chiapas. México 2013.

Has performed in Iceland, Europe, Central America and USA.

He has been invited to take part as a continuo player in several baroque productions, such as the operas El patriarca de San José by José Prades, 1714, at the Palau de la Música de Valencia, and Monteverdi’s Orfeo in Toulouse (France-2007) and Vic (Barcelona-2008).

From the 2009, he is the artistic director and teacher of the SONA A  GUITARRA: International Course of Guitar Orchestra and the International Competition for Young Guitarists, which this year celebrates the 6th edition in the city of Puigreig (Barcelona) from 26 to 29 June 2014.

David Murgadas is the founding member of several chamber ensembles and has recorded four CDs. In the summer of 2008 recorded for the Catalan label  “la mà de Guido” Codex, works for baroque guitar of Santiago de Murzia selected from the Saldívar Codex No. 4. Both the public and critics have considered the interpretation of these works of high quality

He is one of the most versatile Catalan guitarists active today, with a wide repertoire ranging from music for the guitar to works for lute, vihuela, baroque guitar and theorbo.

At present he combines his concert career with teaching activities at the Conservatori Professional de Música “Mestre Joan Just” in Igualada (Barcelona) , where he has been a teacher since 1995.

On the recommendation of the Cultural Association mexico-catalan Mexcat international projects carried promoting Hispanic culture baroque in concerts, lectures and masterclasses: Pasacalle a lo español and Poema Harmónico  interpreted with an original historical instrument, baroque guitar by de australian luthier Peter Bifin. Projects completed in December 2011 in Puebla and Merida (México). Currently working on a concert tour of Mexico in May 2013.
